WhatchaReading

Note: this was initially posted on one of my old, personal blogs, back on January 30, 2010.  There are some “current” event clues that may suggest so…  I stumbled across it recently, and thought the discussion worth re-hashing, as I am constantly in search of the Next Good Book.    I’d love to hear y’alls thoughts on great reads.  🙂

What’cha Reading: In Search of the Next Good Book

The author of one of America’s most beloved books passed away this week.  May you rest in peace, Mr. Salinger.  Your spirit lives on in Holden Caulfield.  How many Americans even knew of this, save for a scarce reference on their friends Facebook pages?  Heck, how may people are familiar with him at all these days?  Sadly, not enough can make that claim…  Shame on us!

The Catcher in the Rye

I digress.  The passing of a true American icon, with no disrespect to the Brittany Murphies of the world (God rest your soul), made me reflect on the literature that has shaped my life, and how many of them left their mark on us.

I cannot begin to explain how much joy I still get from reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.  Please do not confuse these with Disney’s Alice in Wonderland – although one of my favorite movies of all time, it is not literature.  The fact that Lewis Carroll broke out of the mold so long ago, refusing to create children’s stories designed to frighten, ultimately to have a moral, was pretty advanced for his time.  To create a story -heck! an entire world- for the sheer JOY of reading, and fantasy, is still inspiring to me today.  Thank you, Mr. Carroll, for helping me enter the wonderful world of children’s literature. Nancy’s Pizza

Disclosure: I was blessed to receive a gift card to try out Nancy’s Pizza, in exchange for this review and giveaway.  All opinions and tasteless jokes are all my own.

So a few things you should know about me.  Yes, I’m a full-fledged Georgia girl.  Period.  And my husband has lived in Atlanta longer than I’ve been alive.  However, he is from Chicago.  His family is from Chicago, and he has roots in Chicago.  Thus, in the last ten years, I’ve been immersed in a few things “Chicago”, including the cuisine.

Enter: Chicago-style pizza.

We ventured over to the Buckhead location the other day after Saturday Mass, and gave Nancy’s Pizza a try.    I’d had a hankering for deep dish pizza ever since our last trip there in 2007.  So deep dish was long overdue.

But first, we started off with appetizers: cheesy bread sticks!  What can I say, I’m a sucker for bread products you dunk in a delicious tomato sauce.

For the main course, the kids and hubs split a medium thin crust pizza, half sausage, half cheese.  There was nothing left.

And I indulged in my small cheese deep dish.  Holy Mary, motherofpizza!  Yep, it hit the spot – it was the perfect combo of deep and tomato sauce and cheese.  …nevermind the calorie count…Nancys-Pizza-Collage

Because we had a few bucks left on our gift card, we treated the kids to cinnamon sticks.  Ok, fine.  Those ooey-gooey morsels of delicousness were for all of us.  The kids just *happened* to be present at the time we were passing them out.

Overall, we were quite pleased with our experience at Nancy’s Pizza in Buckhead.  The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was fun, and family-friendly.

And who would I be if I didn’t share their coupons with you, huh?  Currently, you can get $2 off any size deep dish pizza, good through 12-31-14.  And one more piece of awesome trivia: Nancy’s Pizza’s midtown location recently launched a mobile app (iOS and Android) where you can order on the go, AND there’s coupons to go along with it!  I suspect there will be mobile apps for more locations, coming VERY soon!

P.S.  My apologies.  You’ll have to settle for partial portions in pictures, and stock photos from Nancy’s Buckhead, as my family was too eager to dig in and eat, before “blog-worthy” photos could be had.
