Just because a child is too young too read doesn’t mean that they don’t still enjoy looking at books.  Sharing books with your baby is a great way to entertain them and stimulate their rapidly developing brain.  Reading to them helps encourage their speech and language development, and of course it’s a great way to spend time together.  Board books are especially wonderful, because they can play with them (and chew on them), and you don’t have to worry about pages getting torn.  You can hold them in your lap while you talk about and point out the different things in the book, but you can also let them look at board books while sitting in a high chair or during tummy time on the floor.  Books with bright, colorful pictures of real life objects, animals, and people are always a great choice, as well as “touch and feel” books that have a variety of textures for their little hands (and sometimes mouths!) to enjoy.

I’ve put together a list of my top ten favorite books that my kids have really enjoyed over the years, and that your little one is sure to love as well!

This is a great list!! We have almost all of them.

    • I love all of these books (well, and a million others!) and what’s really great is that my kids have been able to pass them down to their siblings, and then onto cousins, friends, etc. when they didn’t need them anymore!

  2. Great list to share with my cousins!

  3. I like the list. We have The Very Hungry Caterpillar book at home and my 2 year old son has loved it for more than 1 year now.

    • Eric Carle is one of my favorite children’s authors. I also really like the finger puppet set that you can get to go along with it. Anything that make reading interactive for little ones is a winner in my book!

  4. We loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar when the kids were tiny!

  5. such a great review, it makes me wish that my girls were small again

    • They do grow up so fast! My youngest is 4, so we are pretty much done with the board books now. We gave almost all of them away to a friend with a baby earlier this year, and while I was happy to share them with her, it made me a little sad because my “babies” aren’t so little anymore.

  6. this is a great book listing! we have almost all of them! great review too

    • Thanks Kathleen! Isn’t is neat how the same books are still just as popular today as they were 10 years ago? I think every parent should have at least a few of these for their little ones.

  7. How cute is this list! Would make a great baby shower gift basket!

    • That’s a great idea Isra! So many moms end up with tons of clothes that they don’t really use, but these books will last for years! I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of doing that before. None of them are too expensive either, so it would be pretty reasonable to do!

Hi! This is a fantastic list. We have several of these still. I will never ever give goodnight moon away. Such a sweet book.

    • I love all these books, it was hard for me to part with most of them earlier this year. I’ll have grandkids one day though, and I can share them all over again!
