Tips for Making a Summer Bucket List for Your FamilyA few years ago, Tiffany of RealMomTalk.com created this post on creating a summer bucket list.  I am reviving it, in hopes that it may help inspire some of y’all this summer, as we zip through these last few days of school, and prepare for summer with our kiddos.

We’ve all been seeing a lot of stuff on Facebook and Pinterest about Family Summer Bucket Lists, and many of you have said that you wish you could do something similar with your family.  Well today, I’m sharing tips on how to make your own summer bucket list!

First off, let me say that our summer bucket list is SUPER long, but yours doesn’t have to be.  We have eight people in our family, and I told the kids I would include everything they suggested, within reason of course.  Pretty much everything made the cut, except Nate’s desires for worldwide travel to places like China, that’s not quite possible with our budget right now!  Plus, there’s really no possible way we will do it all, but it’s still fun to dream!  So don’t feel like your list is no good just because it may only have 5 items on it.  That’s still 5 more super fun memories you will be making with your family this summer!  The point is to make a list of activities and then make a conscious effort to allot time to do those things with your family.  Here are some of my top tips and suggestions to help you get your list going!

How To Make A Summer Bucket List

1.  Include things that are free and around the house – Making a summer bucket list doesn’t mean that you have to only include places that cost money.  Add simple things like playing hopscotch, baking cookies, climbing a tree, and family game night to your list.  If you have kids that tend to say they are bored with nothing to do, be sure to add lots of things that they can do at home, and just have them choose from the list each day!

2.  Places you said you’d always wanted to go – Is there somewhere that you have intended to go visit for years, but just haven’t made it to yet?  Add it to the list!  We’ve driven past a dollhouse store almost every day for four years and finally went in last month because we added it to our bucket list!

3.  Places you went as a child – Is there a special place your parents or grandparents would take you when you were little?  Take your kids there and share those memories with them!  Be sure to take a picture, maybe even one similar to one of yourself at the same place when you were younger.

4.  Summer programs like bowling, reading, etc. – Many bowling alleys, skating rinks, movie theaters and libraries offer free or low cost summer activities for kids.  Kids Bowl Free, Free Summer Reading Programs and Regal Cinema’s Summer Movie Express are some websites to get you started!

5.  Take advantage of parks, festivals, etc. that are free – Again, bucket lists don’t necessarily have to be filled with things that cost money to do.  Local parks, arts festivals, and parades are all free and can provide hours of fun!

When you get your list together, write it down on a big piece of paper and hang it up so the kids can check it off as you complete each item.  They’ll be excited to be able to look back at the end of the summer and see all that you did together.  And of course, don’t forget to take lots of pictures of your family fun!

Have you started your family summer bucket list yet?

  1. we should write down and do a bucket list… we just get to caught up in doing and don’t document it 😉
