shopping at Aldi
If you’re lucky enough to live near an Aldi grocery store, I highly recommend you take advantage of this great, simple grocery store! Here are a few simple tips to get you started so you can make the most while shopping at Aldi:
- Aldi’s offers a “double guarantee” on food items. This means, if you aren’t satisfied with a product, you can not only get your money back for the item, but Aldi will ALSO replace it.
- Aldi does NOT accept manufacture coupons, except on occasions when they have their own. These are typically $5 off a $30 purchase. Since the majority of the products they sell are their own store brand, this shouldn’t be a big issue. (Hint: if you ride the Pink Pig at the Lenox Macy’s around the holiday season, I’ve almost always spotted a $5 off $30 coupon there!)
- Bring a quarter. Don’t worry, you’ll get it back. All the shopping carts are kept by the front of the store (no shopping carts in the parking lot) — you insert a quarter to release it, and get it back when it’s returned.
- And while you’re at it, BYOB. (That’s right, bring your own bags …or boxes.) But do expect to “bag” your own groceries. Trust me, it ain’t that hard.
- Bonus health tidbits:
- You won’t find junkety-junk at the checkout isles here. You’ll find healthier options to help you, even if you feel the need to make an impulse buy.
- Their meat line is now free from antibiotics, hormones, steroids or animal by-products.
- Last fall, they removed from their store brands certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils and added MSG.
All of this is meant to pass the savings -and health benefits- on to you. Find an Aldi near you, and give it a try!
