I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Influence-Central for Sprint. I received a device to facilitate my review.  All opinions and bad puns, however, are all my own.

I am frequently asked about the best phone plans out there.  And, to be perfectly honest, my husband works for a major phone company, so I don’t actively seek out this knowledge for my personal use.  Tiffany shared information with y’all about a mobile plan a while back Walmart was offering.  However, I was recently invited to an event with other local bloggers to learn more about Virgin Mobile’s Custom Plans, and was rather impressed by it all.

Sold exclusively at Walmart, plans as low as $6.98 allow for incredible control over your family’s plan.  You can build upon a plan based on your family’s needs.  Look at how easily you can log in to your account, and make adjustments to your monthly plan:

Try out their plan calculator, to tinker with what you can do for your custom plan here.  Additionally, you can add these on to your plan: unlimited talk for $18 per user/device, unlimited texts for an additional fee, unlimited select apps for $5 each or packaged for $15 (this is instead of unlimited data), music package for $5, and map package $1 (50 mg/day) or $3 (350 mg/day), plus MUCH more – check out the specifics on the Virgin Mobile Custom Plan site.

There is no activation fee to get started – you simply purchase your phone, and set up your plan and go.  There are three specific devices that work with the Virgin Mobile Custom Plans: ZTE emblem $79.99 (Android), LG Post $99 (Android), $129 LG Unify (Android) – with more to come!  Warranty available for each phone, from 6 mo to 1 year, info contained within box.

Here’s one example of a custom plan from Virgin Mobile.

Additionally, you can control your kids’ social media usage.  Don’t want them on Facebook or Twitter during school hours?  You have the ability to shut it off remotely.  Have an emergency and need to get in touch with them?  Just log on to the Virgin Mobile Custom Plans app from your phone or tablet, and you can quickly change your child’s settings and re-activate voice, texts, or data.

…and how cool is this: you can even restrict to apps and internet access when on wifi.  Yep, even when the device is connected to wifi!  Parents can keep their own phone plan with phone service, but can still control plans for kids (or whomever is covered) from the app.  You can download the app via apple store or android store for free; can also customize

Best of all, although this plan is geared mainly towards families with children, it can work for all sorts of family dynamics.  My mom is not a big cell phone user, and wouldn’t touch data on a mobile device.  So for her, a low-cost plan for voice and texting (which she does maybe five times a month – lol), would be ideal!  (….and getting her away from the antiquated flip phone…)
