As a mother of young kids, sometimes it’s easy to get stuck in a rut – whether it be at mealtime, household duties (ugh!), fitness, fashion, or all of the above and then some. Sometimes we truly just trudge through in survival mode, doing the best we can with what we have, and feel accomplished in getting through the day in a somewhat sane fashion.
(Spit baths count as an actual bath for small children, right???)
Now that my kids are getting a little older (I mean, seriously, when did my baby girl become a seven year old?!), I feel like I am slowly gaining control of some of those things. I’ve dedicated three mornings a week to the gym and group fitness classes, of course sick kids and volunteering opps and sick cars tend to muddle with that plan from time to time. I’ve begun to try to get back in to cooking a little more frequently, in spite of my picky not-so-little-anymore tots.
But the area I continue to struggle with? Clothing. It’s no secret that I’m far from a fashion maven, right? I mean, if you’ve ever spotted me in real life, you know I’m primarily a pants and tee-shirt gal. And typically those tee-shirts are on the cheap side, like the $5 special at Target. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!) It’s what’s comfortable to me. It’s easy. And it doesn’t break the bank.
However, I’ve noted in the past how those cheap tees just don’t hold up. Inexplicably, I end up with tiny holes in my shirts. And I swear, I treat them well in the laundry, yet they still don’t last long- which, in the long run, makes them less of a good frugal option, if they need to be replaced frequently.
(Ok, fine. So sometimes I may still wear holey shirts. Don’t judge me!)
However, I was recently blessed with the opportunity to participate in a prAna review of some of their clothing. Talk about placing me square out of my unfashionable comfort zone! I’d heard nothing but wonderful things about their products, but was always hesitant, because -well, because they weren’t my usual $5 tees.
I selected a cargo green pair of kara jeans and a sutra shirt in light red violet. However, upon delivery, I discovered I was sent the wrong color top – the one sent was “stone”, which I feared would be too light or just not colorful enough against my pasty complexion. I reached out to the rep, and was told they’d run out of the color I’d requested, and was sent the “stone” color as a replacement. I wasn’t thrilled, but went with it for the purposes of this prAna review.
The pants were surprisingly comfortable. Although I am not a fan of low-rise fitted pants (honestly, after two kids and too much sweet tea, that’s a recipe for disaster. or muffin top overload), I found with a loose blouse, they were comfortable and I felt pretty good in them. (For the long run, or for more form-fitting tops, I may invest in good tummy-paneled shapewear because ….muffin top.) I paired the jeans with a brown top I’d gotten on clearance …honestly, because I’d yet to have a chance to wear it.
The stone-colored top I liked less. I think because I actually ordered it a size too big. Ya see, I guess I feel bigger than I actually am? I ordered a large, but probably would’ve been better off with a medium. And also, I didn’t read the handy-dandy sizing chart very well, even though I was explicitly told so. (I know, I know.) In any case, the shirt was still comfortable, and pretty flattering. In reality, I would probably pair it with a colored tank top, and wear it unbuttoned, and a perhaps more lively color would have given the outfit a nice pop.
All in all, I’m pretty satisfied with my prAna experience, and am happy to say I was comfortably placed out of my comfort zone for this prAna review.
