Story times around Atlanta are just one of a gajillion perks of being a parent of little ones in this city. Story time is an extended benefit of parents reading aloud to their children, as it also helps a child’s social side grow, as well as prepare/supplement listening skills for preschool and school. Following a list of mostly retail places around the metro Atlanta are that offer story times, open to the community.
First, don’t forget, you can also check with your local library, as well – despite budget cuts these last few years, story times are still going strong. Local counties have their times listed online: Dekalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Clayton, Cobb, Sequoyah regional and Forsyth.
- 45 South Cafe – 45 South Peachtree Street, Norcross, GA 30071 (770.409.4009)- Wednesdays 9:30 am
- Avid Book Shop – 493 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA 30360 beside Fire Hall No. 2 (706-352-2060) Saturdays BONUS: There’s also a book club for kids age 7 -12 on Sundays.
- Barnes and Noble – Typically held on Saturday mornings, but will vary by location. Check here for your nearest location and date and times. varies by location
- Catch Air Johns Creek – So this is the only one that’s not “free”, but for the price of admission, you can also enjoy a story time at this location. Make sure you “like” their Facebook page, so you can stay alert for special discounts. 10950 State Bridge Rd, Johns Creek, Georgia 30022 (678-242-0311) Thursdays 11:00 am
- Kroger (Crossville) – Crossville Kroger in Roswell holds story time with Gramma Snazzy, where they sing songs, she reads a story, they celebrate any birthday that day and they do a craft. Then snacks and a drink are available as they leave. 570 E Crossville Rd, Roswell, GA 30075 Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 10 am
- Little Shop of Stories – THREE story time opportunities, each lasting 20-30 minutes 133A East Court Square
Decatur, Georgia 30030 (404-373-6300) Tuesdays at 11am; Thursday at 7pm (featuring cookies and milk!); Sundays at 3pm - Pottery Barn Kids – offers occasional story times, check here for a location nearest you.

This is a great list. I wish I taken advantage of story time when my kids were younger. We did read to them at home though.
You know, Katherine, I did story time a few mornings a week with my daughter (my first), and then …with my son, well, he’s lucky we read a lot at home. 🙂
