The Coupon Fairy Cometh

**This post may contain affiliate links. I receive a small amount of compensation when you purchase from my links, which I"ll totally blow on waffle fries and sweet tea, y'all!**

Have you ever been walking through the store and found a coupon strategically placed right by its intended product?  Perhaps YOU have left a coupon for another unsuspecting shopper?  If so, welcome to the Coupon Fairy Club!
I’ve long been a coupon fairy, before I even knew what I was doing.  Countless times, I’ve looked through my stash, and realized I had plenty of good coupons that I simply wouldn’t get around to using.  Thus, instead of sticking them in the recycling (NEVER THE TRASH, please!), I always find it more helpful -dare I say altruistic?- to pass them on to someone else.  Mostly, this is done anonymously, as the coupons are simply left near the applicable items.

However, on the rare occasions that I can hand a fellow shopper a coupon, it’s priceless!  I recall striking up a conversation with another new mom back when The Tot was still The Infant.  In the course of our conversation, the other mom asked for diaper recommendations.  Ever fulfilling my role as Atlanta’s Frugal Mom even before this very blog’s birth, I gave her my abbreviated diaper philosophy: buy whatever’s cheapest.  After all, they’re all going to be filled with the same stuff in the end, right?  (Yes, pun intended…)  As we quickly scanned the diaper shelves, I pulled out my (then smaller) coupon envelope, and handed her a $3.00 Huggies coupon I’d printed.  With the coupon, Huggies were cheaper than the store brand.  She was amazed, excited, and humbled all at once that I would fork over a high value coupon.  …and, thus, I experienced a whole new kind of coupon high.

I challenge you, my dear readers, to be a Coupon Fairy.  Or, if you already are, share your stories.  Just keep your eyes peeled for the Coupon Fairy, and enjoy her sweet treats!  :o)

P.S.  As I’m typing this, I can’t help but create a mental image of me with store-bought fairy wings strapped to my back, wand in hand, coupon binder in my cart, and possibly some kind of hat or tiara, tip-toeing through my favorite stores, and “tee-hee-hee”ing as I leave coveted coupons for unsuspecting shoppers.  ….and were I in the company of a few of my former college roomies -after a few libations gave us the courage and heightened our goofiness- I can totally see this scenario occurring.

Last updated August 6, 2010

Cash4Books.net and McKenzie Books, Inc. (collectively “C4B”) will honor the quoted price for books received within 30 days that meet our condition standards. Books will NOT be accepted* with any of the following conditions:

  • Missing or loose pages.
  • Major wear to the binding.
  • Tears to the cover or pages.
  • Water, moisture damage, mold, or stains.
  • Fire or smoke damage.
  • Strong odor of any kind (including cigarette odor).
  • Exceeds C4B’s maximum quantity of each ISBN.

A slight amount of writing, underlining or highlighting of pages is usually okay, as long as it appears to be on fewer than 20% of the book’s pages. However, workbooks, lab manuals, study guides, and books with practice tests will not be accepted if they contain any writing.

If a textbook originally came with a CD or DVD, the original CD/DVD must accompany the book when shipped to us. Any and all CD/DVDs must be in working condition, uninstalled, and unregistered from all computers.

Types of items C4B will NOT accept and may discard* include:

  • Advance reading copies, uncorrected proofs, and/or promotional or “screener” copies of books.
  • Books that state “review copy”, “free copy”, “not for resale” (or “not for sale”) anywhere on the cover or inside.
  • Teacher’s or Instructor’s editions.
  • Solutions manuals.
  • International edition textbooks (standard U.S. editions only).
  • Ex-library books.
  • Custom edition textbooks (textbooks printed for a specific school).
  • One-time use subscription/registration-based software/online course materials.
  • Partial sets (i.e. only volume 1 of a 2 volume set).
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed books.
  • Items with no ISBN printed anywhere on or inside the item.
  • Calendars, card decks, puzzles, games, and other non-book items—even if they have an ISBN.
  • Pornography or otherwise offensive and explicit material.
  • Most encyclopedia sets.
  • Most Bibles.
  • Most magazines and comic books.
  • Copies of books that do not comply with U.S. copyright laws.

C4B, in its sole discretion imposes a maximum quantity per ISBN per IP address. Your seller cart will indicate how many of each book C4B will purchase, indicated by “MAX=” for each book in your cart. After entering ISBNs, you can change quantities by clicking on “View your seller cart.” If you are a reseller and/or have large numbers of books above C4B’s allowable maximum, please send us an email and C4B’s Inventory Management team will correspond with you. Additional copies of books sent to C4B over and above the allowed maximum quantity will NOT be accepted.*

Please do not send extra books or extra items in your shipment. Additional books or items included in your shipment that are not in your seller cart will not be accepted and may cause a reduction in the total quoted price.

C4B reserves the right in its sole discretion to determine the condition of a book or other item upon receipt in C4B’s warehouse, regardless of any price quoted to you by C4B, and to take price deductions or discard* accordingly.

Items accepted and purchased by C4B will not be returned to the Seller.

*Items not accepted by C4B will only be shipped back to the Seller at the Seller’s expense. Items not accepted will be held for 30 days; after that time, these items will be recycled, donated, or used to support the community and environment at C4B’s discretion. C4B will post a notice of any deductions for items not accepted on the seller’s account within 2 business days after receipt. If the Seller would like their unaccepted items returned, the Seller must contact C4B promptly, through email or phone, to make payment for return shipping costs.

Cash4Books *UPDATE*

**This post may contain affiliate links. I receive a small amount of compensation when you purchase from my links, which I"ll totally blow on waffle fries and sweet tea, y'all!**

I wanted to update y’all on my first experience with Cash4Books..  After getting an email confirmation that they’ve processed my books, and have mailed out my check, I learned that they did NOT except 3 of my 15 books, notingWater or moisture damage.”  Two of the books were quoted at over $10 each, one for 50 cents.  Thus, this Frugal Mom was a bit concerned.

Sell Used Books Online - Quick Cash, Free Shipping, Free Quotes!

I promptly called the 800 number listed on the email, and inquired about the water or moisture damage.  I was told that it could be a very simple water stain, that they are very picky about the books they accept.  I know for certain that those books were in great shape when I sent them off, but perhaps may have had slight moisture.  Still, I was upset that I didn’t get the full quoted value of over $60.  After all, this Frugal Mom wants her money!

(Side note: they spell out their policy for books they accept, I will create a separate post immediately following this one.)

However, the lady I spoke with was rather nice about the ordeal.  First, she checked the box that the books came in.  (They photograph each box, to note if there was any damage upon receiving shipments.)  Since no damage was noted, she offered to ship the books back to me for free.  This was a “one time offer” since it was my first time working with Cash4Books.  (Normally, you would be charged to have books shipped back to you.)

I’d rather have the $20, but I’ll take the books back.  Perhaps I can sell them on amazon or else where?  In any case, if I can’t have the cash quoted, I’d rather have the books back.

Overall, I’m still rather pleased with my experience thus far.  I opted to have a check sent by snail mail, instead of instant payment via PayPal.  That was a personal choice, which made sense for me.

In any case, remember: if you’re looking for a way to de-clutter, AND get paid for your books, I do still recommend you check out Cash4Books — shipping is free, you’ll get instant quotes for your books, and you get paid quickly with PayPal, or you can opt for a check in the mail.  Word to the wise: you’ll need to have the book(s) handy, as you’ll enter the ISBN to get a price quote.

If you don’t like the quote for a book here, try donating to Goodwill or another worthy cause, or enter it at PaperBack Swap.  Or, if you’re in the Athens area, try Avid Bookshop!
